Music
Are we a bit excited about the Challengers soundtrack? Yes, we are. Had we spent time with the album Willy and the Poor Boys? Mornings, on the balcony, in the sun, with coffee and a book, a classic. Thinking about riding out to the prairie and saying howdy. Did we then continue with the Weezer Weezer album? Yes, indeed.
Some moments couldn't have been more similar to a coming of age movie. As the sun sets and you walk through the park, The Odds and Big Sleep were the soundtrack. 11 out of 10 stars.
Plus listening to The Idol soundtrack in the morning, Souzie Fleur for the occasion (we saw her play live - Go, Souzie), and a little detour into my favorite music world with SIX and to finish it all off the DAMN GODFATHER SOUNDTRACK - SUPERGENIAL!
Movie
Challengers was an utter delight - super hot, super sexy, all eyes on Zendaya. We are now considering becoming tennis pros. What I also enjoyed was counting the brand names - almost like a James Bond movie. What was a bit too much were those "video game" shots. But hey, they tried.
Other than that, I also had the pleasure of watching The Election. Sometimes it's nice to see that there were movies in the 90s that were woke without having to be woke.
Okay, otherwise a bit of Shameless here and there.
Book
And it goes on, I forgot that too. So in the last newsletter, I explained how this book (and the one before it) works. What I forgot is that one person (best friend) then gets another weird ego boost and feels left alone and EVERYONE ELSE IS TO BLAME: I still have fun with it though.
Oh, and I found a book on the street called Lisa and it's supposed to be a thriller and because I'm usually so extremely thrilled with Lisas, that's the next choice.
Other Inspirations
Summer is here, the easy life is back and you're walking through the streets and the sun is setting and you're sitting on a hill somewhere with music playing and people around.
June 10th
Music
Started with a very depressing episode of Fest und Flauschig. Well, it was a good weekend so far. Then continued with their radio play about the Hamburger Schule (too young, can't relate) about news (WHY? Who is really so retarded to vote for Nazis out of frustration... then no idea, take the dumbest sounding party, take the last generation [because well, you're kind of the last... ddm tss] but dude). To seal the end of the day with something more enjoyable like the Odds.
Movie
Let's move on to something really pleasing: I was able to cross a movie off my watchlist. (It's not like there are 10 new movies on the list for every one I see).
4th of July, written and directed by Louis C.K., a movie very reminiscent of Woody Allen, about an anonymous alcoholic who struggles with the ghosts of his family and decides to do battle on the 4th of July. I liked it. 6.5 out of 10 stars.
Oh, and thanks for making me crazy about the Karl Lagerfeld series earlier this year, WHICH HAS JUST COME TO GERMANY.
Book
During the hour on hold for the US Social Security Number dudes, I got to follow up on the relationship, which is just toxic. Ew, we don't like Felix.
Other Inspirations
And suddenly you come home from work, exercise, cook, and watch a movie like you've never had a problem with FOMO.
June 11
Music
A morning with Moritz and Til, an afternoon with Neil Brennan and Jerry Seinfeld, a blackwave mix radio with lots of blackwave, and an evening with Regina Spektor.
Movie
Because of the podcast block, we started UNFROSTED. Timing 10 out of 10 stars, theme 11 out of 10 stars (if you care about American cornflakes) Actors 7 out of 10 stars, second half then tomorrow.
Book
Oh well, it's coming to an end and the message is, how could it be otherwise: love. In general, between friends and family. Here's a little quote:
in a funny way maybe it is not important to get along and more important just to love each other anyway
Other Inspirations
Kissed by the muse and spent four hours writing. Very inspired.
June 12
Music
Its a Heardache by Rod Stewart is great, but we'll stick with Bonnie Tyler as the original, thanks. Very Regina Spektor-heavy day otherwise.
Movie
Tomorrow is another day or C'è ancora domani is a movie that MUST BE SEEN!!!
Music and handling of the music 11 out of 10 stars, acting, well, let's say 10 out of 10 stars, because Italian, story 88 out of 10 stars and discussion after the movie / effect / importance goes, rather so in infinity of 10 stars.
So second half UNFROSTED then tomorrow.
Book
Oh how nice, now towards the end it's still about making accusations.
Other Inspirations
Italy in summer, or back to Rome like 6 years ago, with wine and cicadas and Italian friends and, if you like, an Australian and just the good life.
June 13th
Music
Whew, slow morning with Jan and Oli. Diving into Toxic Tantra, a recommendation from Oli, a new song from KIZ which is ooookay but anyway, the new album is coming and we can't wait to celebrate the summer with it.
Movie
The decision for the new episode has been made and I love it. Very.
Book
Dear Sally,
I've now read your third book and can't wait to watch the series that I hope will or has already been filmed. I understand the fascination with the meeting of toxic people and their thoughts and feelings about it, although I often get angry when I read it. But as the woman in the café said: it's like a beach read, just a little bit more challenging. It's also improving my English, step by step.
